IMHO, machine learning is capable of
(at best) predicting probability.
The humans provide input of data
(eg, type of crime, date/time, location, etc)
& the software generates the patterns.
While people are creatures of habit,
I reckon there’s just too many variables in
human behaviour to come up with a
comprehensive algorithm that can tap into
criminal minds overnight
(i.e. within a decade or so).
Nevertheless, over a collective period of time,
I believe it will possible to achieve greater
accuracy of predictive crime mapping tools.
